Christians laud ministry for stepping in

KUALA LUMPUR: The National Christian Fellowship Malaysia has commended the Deputy Internal Security Minister Datuk Fu Ah Kiow for intervening with the seizure of several Christian books.

Its secretary-general Wong Kin Kong said the move was good for inter-religious harmony.

Wong was commenting on the report the ministry had returned several Christian books which carried the picture of the Prophet Moses and Noah.

Fu had confirmed that the instruction had been given to the ministry's publications unit but declined to elaborate on the matter.

Last week, the Council of Churches in Malaysia (CCM) had urged the leadership to intervene, saying the books, in English, were not meant for Muslims, adding that they were children’s books.

Its secretary-general Dr Hermen Shastri, questioning the rationale behind the confiscation, said there was nothing sensitive about the book as they were meant for Christians.
