Kedah wants ferry hike postponed

MYT 4:11:58 PM

ALOR STAR: The Kedah Government will meet Langkawi ferry operators to discuss the possibility of postponing the introduction of the new ferry fares until early next year.

State Industry, Transport, Science and Innovative and Chinese Community Affairs Committee chairman Datuk Chong Itt Chew said the state wanted a postponement due to the Langkawi International Maritime and Aerospace (Lima) Exhibition which would be held in Langkawi next month.

“We received requests from various parties who hoped that the new fares would be implemented after Lima and the current school holidays so that they could go to Langkawi and watch the exhibition,” he said when met after the swearing-in ceremony of state executive councillors here on Sunday.

Chong said the meeting with the operators would be held soon.

It was reported on Thursday that return ferry fares to Langkawi would increase by RM6 to RM10 from Dec 1.
